The problem
The risk arrives before the product does.
The biggest sourcing risk doesn't appear at the dock. It's already there at the point of catch or harvest — in whether the vessel was authorized to fish that water, whether it appears on a watch list, whether its track went dark at the wrong moment, or whether the farm is approved for the market you're selling into.
A name on a landing document tells you none of that. By the time it surfaces in an audit, the product has moved downstream and the exposure is fully yours.

Identity
IMO / LR number, flag state, owner, vessel type, fish hold capacity.
Authorizations
Flag-state authorization number, the species it’s cleared to catch, the areas it’s cleared to fish.
Status against the lists that matter
ISSF PVR list, IUU-list status, MSC and PNA chain of custody, EU-approved establishment status, social-accountability flags.
So before you take ownership you can answer the questions that carry real risk: is this source what it claims to be, was it cleared to produce what it produced, where it produced it, and is it clear of any listing that should stop the deal.

Satellite coverage isn't perfect. Where AIS or VMS data has gaps, SmarTuna shows them plainly rather than smoothing them over — because a visible gap is information, and a suspiciously clean line isn't.

SmarTuna flags what deserves attention — a gap, an encounter, a missing authorization, a watch-list match — as evidence for review. It sharpens your due diligence. It doesn't replace your judgment or make legal determinations for you.
