SmarTuna

Products / Proof Points & Verification

Every claim, with evidence attached.

MSC chain of custody. EU-approved facility. Freely chosen employment. No child labor. Each one is a claim someone will eventually ask you to prove. SmarTuna turns each into a proof point — a defined requirement, with defined evidence, linked to the batch it covers.

What a proof point is

A claim on its own is an assertion.

A proof point is that claim plus everything needed to stand behind it.

What it means

A clear definition of the claim and what it covers.

What evidence it requires

The specific documents or records that substantiate it.

Who provides that evidence

The party in the chain responsible for supplying it.

What it applies to

The trip, batch, shipment, product or organization it relates to.

When it’s valid from and until

So an expiring certificate is visible before it lapses.

Once a claim is structured that way, proving it stops being a research exercise.

Document requirements

What's still missing, and whose job it is.

For every proof point, SmarTuna defines the document requirements that satisfy it — the type of document, who provides it, who it's for, and the level it attaches to. That turns a vague obligation into a specific, assignable task.

Instead of chasing an unknown list by email, your team works from a defined one — requesting outstanding documents from partners through the platform, with a collaboration mode that lets them contribute what they owe without opening up anything else.

Verification

Checked against the record, not just filed.

Documents alone aren't verification. SmarTuna checks the parties in your chain against external registries and lists — RFMO records, ISSF PVR, MSC and ASC chain of custody, EU-approved establishments, IUU lists.

So a claim rests on the current status of the vessel, farm or facility behind it — not only on a certificate someone uploaded.

Social accountability & labor rights

A social claim should travel with the product.

Most traceability systems stop at environmental claims. SmarTuna carries the same structure into social responsibility — the area under the sharpest scrutiny, and the hardest to evidence with paperwork alone.

Evidence, structured the same way

BSCI/Amfori, SMETA, Fair Trade, the FISH Standard for Crew, observer and monitoring reports — defined requirements, an assigned provider, and a link to the Raw Material ID they cover.

Attached to the shipment

When a retailer asks how you know the crew conditions behind a shipment, the answer is attached to the shipment — not an assurance passed down the chain.

A diligence trail you can show

Evidence you can produce on request, and a record that you looked — in the area under the sharpest scrutiny.

Reporting

Show exactly where you stand.

Compliance against a standard is shown as a matrix — the required data elements against each stage of the chain, marked as met, expiring, or not yet met, at whatever date you choose to evaluate.

It's the difference between believing you're compliant and being able to demonstrate it.

The payoff

Ready before the request.

Evidence is gathered as the product moves, attached to the batch it belongs to, and stored with its revisions and classification.

When the request arrives, the work is retrieved, not assembled.

The result

What this means for your business.

Every claim defined, evidenced and attached to what it covers
A clear list of what’s outstanding, and who owes it
Environmental, legal and social claims in one structure
Parties verified against live registries, not just certificates on file
Audit-ready evidence retrieved in minutes, not assembled over days

Built for the whole ocean

See a claim proven, end to end.

SmarTuna works across all oceans, all seafood species, and every major fishing and farming method.

Developed by Pacifical, the team behind the traceability system used by the world's largest MSC-certified purse-seine tuna fishery.
