SmarTuna

Industries / Importers & customs agents

Find the problem while it's still fixable.

You inherit a file built by other supply chain actors and find out what's wrong with it at the worst possible moment — after submission, with the container already at the port. SmarTuna checks a consignment against the requirements before it arrives, so any gaps surface upstream, while there's still time to close them.

How it goes wrong

The clock starts when the file is already wrong

A consignment arrives with documentation assembled by parties across several countries. Something in it isn’t quite right — a weight that doesn’t reconcile, a certificate that isn’t validated, a link back to the vessel that doesn’t quite join up.

You find out after submission. Now the product is at the port, storage is filling, costs are accruing daily, and the answer you need sits with a supplier several time zones away who has already moved on to the next shipment. Nobody involved intended this, but it happens anyway, because the check comes at the end of the process rather than the beginning.

What SmarTuna does for you

Clear to submit, or a precise list of what isn't

Checks the consignment before it’s submitted.

Every required element, at every stage from catch to export, marked ready, needs attention or missing — so a file is either clear to submit or comes with a precise list of what’s outstanding.

See regulatory filings

Tells you who owes what.

Each open item names the responsible party, so resolving it doesn’t start with working out whose job it is.

See proof points & verification

Reconciles the data across the chain.

Species, catch area and weights are checked for consistency across catch, transshipment, landing, processing and export, so contradictions between documents surface before a customs officer finds them.

See traceability & chain of custody

Confirms the source stands up.

Vessel authorizations, IUU-list status and establishment approvals are screened against the registries, so the legality questions are answered before the file is built on them.

Why the timing works

The evidence exists earlier than you see it

This is the structural change, and it’s the reason the timing works.

The information your file depends on — the trip, the catch, the discharge, the transfer of custody — exists from the moment the fish is landed. What usually reaches you is a summary of it, weeks later, once the product is nearly at your door.

When that data is captured at the source and linked as the product moves, a gap is visible at discharge rather than at submission. The missing certificate can be requested while the container is still on the water. Same problem, weeks of margin instead of none.

Every market, one process

EU CATCH, US SIMP, FSMA and the standards your customers apply on top — each wants its own evidence in its own way.

Because the underlying record is the same, a consignment can be checked against whichever framework applies to its destination, without maintaining a separate process, a separate file structure and a separate chase list per market.

Predictability is the point

The cost of a delayed consignment isn’t only demurrage and storage. It’s the planning that can’t be done, the customer who can’t be given a date, and the time your team spends on files that should have cleared without intervention.

Fewer surprises means clearance times you can forecast, exceptions you can staff for, and product that moves when you said it would.
