Products / Vessel & Farm Monitoring
The moment you take ownership, you inherit a vessel's or a farm's history — its authorizations, its record, everything it did before your name was on the product. SmarTuna lets you see that history first: verified source data and independent at-sea tracking, so you know who produced your seafood, and how, before the shipment arrives.
The problem
The biggest sourcing risk doesn't appear at the dock. It's already there at the point of catch or harvest — in whether the vessel was authorized to fish that water, whether it appears on a watch list, whether its track went dark at the wrong moment, or whether the farm is approved for the market you're selling into.
A name on a landing document tells you none of that. By the time it surfaces in an audit, the product has moved downstream and the exposure is fully yours.
The approach
Identity, flag, authorizations, certifications, watch-list status.
Real movements and activity — not a summary written after the fact.
SmarTuna answers both, from the same verified record.
Screening
SmarTuna maintains a registry of thousands of vessels — purse seiners, longliners and reefer carriers — and pulls the picture together for any source in your chain.
IMO / LR number, flag state, owner, vessel type, fish hold capacity.
Flag-state authorization number, the species it’s cleared to catch, the areas it’s cleared to fish.
ISSF PVR list, IUU-list status, MSC and PNA chain of custody, EU-approved establishment status, social-accountability flags.
So before you take ownership you can answer the questions that carry real risk: is this source what it claims to be, was it cleared to produce what it produced, where it produced it, and is it clear of any listing that should stop the deal.

Intelligence
Every trip recorded in the SmarTuna platform is more than a line on a map. Alongside the fishing events, transshipments and landings, the activity timeline surfaces the behaviors that matter for risk.
Where the track went dark.
Time spent stationary, out of pattern.
Meetings with other vessels at sea.
Every hand-off, on the water or in port.
Where a vessel goes quiet, you see it. Where it meets a carrier at sea, you see it. These are the signals that separate a routine trip from one worth a closer look — visible as they happened, rather than reconstructed afterward.

Aquaculture
Is this facility approved for the market you're selling into, does its certification actually cover this harvest, and can the origin be evidenced rather than asserted?
Records, approvals and certifications — including ASC and MSC chain of custody — verified against the same registries, and origin captured at discharge as a Raw Material ID that carries through the rest of the chain.
This isn't a monitoring dashboard bolted on the side. The source data and activity record become part of the traceability record itself — the same verified origin your full-chain traceability is built on.
They're one record. The vessel or farm you checked is the one in the chain — with the same evidence behind it all the way to the pack.
What we do and don't claim
Two commitments keep this credible.
Satellite coverage isn't perfect. Where AIS or VMS data has gaps, SmarTuna shows them plainly rather than smoothing them over — because a visible gap is information, and a suspiciously clean line isn't.
SmarTuna flags what deserves attention — a gap, an encounter, a missing authorization, a watch-list match — as evidence for review. It sharpens your due diligence. It doesn't replace your judgment or make legal determinations for you.
The economics
Screening a source by hand means chasing registries, certificates and list checks one at a time, per vessel, per trip — which is why, in practice, it often doesn't happen at all under time pressure.
Here it's already done: the checks run against the registries, the record is assembled, and your team spends its time only on the exceptions. The same evidence then serves your audits and buyer requests later, instead of being gathered twice. See cutting the cost of compliance.
The result
Built for the whole ocean
SmarTuna works across all oceans, all seafood species, and every major fishing and farming method.
Developed by Pacifical, the team behind the traceability system used by the world's largest MSC-certified purse-seine tuna fishery.
